The Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has directed mobile operators to slash the cost of data.

The Federal Government on Tuesday 5th November through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed the telecom mobile operators to reduce the cost of data.

The Federal Government through the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami instructed NCC to work on modalities to reduce the cost of data for the benefits of Nigerians.

This is coming barely some months after the Minister announced that the country will be undergoing 5G Network test.

The Nigeria’s internet penetration is currently pegged at 47.1 percent of the population in 2018 and is set to reach 84.5 percent in 2023 according to a report on Statista.

Nigeria still operates in 3G and 4G and the masses still accuse the telecom operators of data sapping. It has been argued by experts that the current 3G strength is that of 2G and that of 4G is equivalent to that of 3G in the international standard.

For 5G testing to really work in Nigeria, data must be very affordable and illegal deduction must be curbed. 5G is expected to consume more data more than that of 4G hence the need for a data reduction and strict regulations again illegal acts of mobile operators.

With this, we can say the country is ready to test 5G network.
